Marine DSC

All Marine VHF radios designed in the US after June 17, 1999 have Digital Selective Calling (DSC), so there is a good chance your radio has this capability. There are several features of this radio: it has a distress button which allows you to contact the Coast Guard and other nearby vessels in an emergency with the push of one button;  it can be used as a phone directory similar to a cell phone with individual MMSI numbers and Group numbers; this directory can then be used to initiate calls.
